If there is one word that
describes Ivanhoe, it’s ‘green’.

Famed for The Boulevard’s elaborate Christmas lights display, Ivanhoe has a certain enchantment to it; where lush, rolling hills make up an exciting realm that is only 10 kilometres northeast of the CBD. It is this innate charm and character that makes this family-friendly domain such a sought after location to call home. Ivanhoe hosts a variety of public spaces to find retreat, encouraging a healthy lifestyle that is connected with nature. One of the city’s most superb conservation sites, the Darebin Parklands, is a vast oasis in the north.

Tracks that meander through the natural reserve, made for activities of all intensities, allow visitors to enjoy the rich vegetation, while the Darebin Creek itself sets a calming soundtrack to this peaceful suburban retreat. The heart of the suburb is Upper Heidelberg Road, a mecca for all things shopping, dining and services. Airlie has direct access to all of these drawcards, located at the base of the Ivanhoe Village.

A waltz around Ivanhoe’s
teeming dining scene.

The curves of Upper Heidelberg Road host a notable collection of services, retailers and dining institutions. Italian restaurants rule the fort in Ivanhoe, including the much-loved Va Tutto – serving up classic flavours in contemporary forms, with a side of great service.

If you seek a more casual eatery, head across the road to the Woodfire Pizzeria and Cucina; a newcomer to the Ivanhoe dining landscape. The restaurant offers small plates of kingfish Carpaccio, grilled polenta, and more substantial meals such as Neapolitan pizzas and generously sized pastas.

There are plenty of places to indulge in afternoon tea, too, including French favourite Laurent. For something a little more of the track, there is DOCASA around the corner on Lower Heidelberg Road, whose impeccable interiors uplift visitors as soon as they walk through the doors. A bounty of suspended plants overlooks diners, who enjoy beautifully composed dishes, from breakfast through to dinner. L'Artigiano is an esteemed, long-serving Italian powerhouse perfect for special occasions. Start with an antipasto plate or some meatballs in tomato sugo, follow that up with slow roasted lamb or fish of the day and round off your Italian experience with a sweet cannoli or panna cotta.
